Work At Home ScamsAvoid Work at Home Scams - Here's HowResearch every company by reviewing the status with the Better Business Bureau. You can also review the Better Business Bureau's Home Business Schemes information here. Don't get inspired by 'get rich quick' ads claiming you can earn thousands of dollars in a short period of time. And be cautious of companies that require you to sign up and pay money immediately. Legitimate opportunities will allow you to go at your own pace, review the company, and decide if the opportunity is something you feel confident about. NOTE: Even legitimate opportunities will try to inspire you to invest money, but will not cancel you if you don't. Before you invest in a home based business, get specific information (in writing) from the company such as how long they have been in business, physical location, how many customers they have, thoroughly learn their refund policy, and exactly how and when you will be payed. Ask for a few references of people who are active members of the business. Call these people and discuss their experiences with the company. Take notes and evaluate your findings. Always pay with a credit card or open an account with Paypal (a secure online payment service). This will help if want a refund and any disputes arise. It may be easier to dispute the charges with your credit card company rather than trying to get your money back from a fraudulent company. Stay away from any employment opportunity that asks for money (such as money for "job" instructions, to test your printer, to see if you are qualified or for an application). A great place to research any current scams is at ScamBusters. If you do fall victim to a scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission. You may also contact your state's Attorney General and the National Fraud Information Center, PO Box 65868, Washington, DC 20035 or (800) 876-7060. For more protection, it is recommended to contact Internet Fraud Watch for advice, trends, or to report a fraud. Don't invest in any opportunity that you are not sure about. Instead, find something that you are interested in and will enjoy doing. (Do what you love, and the money will follow.)
